Streetwise is a documentary that captures the lives of the young homeless of Seattle, Washington. This film engulfs its viewers into the day to day lives of these kids. Mary Ellen Mark’s revolutionary style told the story in a subversive way to where there was no outside interaction with her subjects. I think we were shown this film to not only open our eyes to the lives of these kids and the real issue of homeless youth in Seattle especially at that time, but to culture us with a different perspective of the world and how we can capture it. Post watching this film, I can take away what Mary intended; to view the world differently. I have learned to see things on a different spectrum and have been influenced to find ways to capture those moments in my work.
