The Circle Line Boat trip was especially interesting to me because of how it evidenced real life cases of the effect of mankind on the earth. Something I was baffled by was the fact that we have actually modified the entire shorefront of Manhattan to expand it. The human race has grown to have the same power of the massive glaciers that through time and corrosion created the island. And it was also amazing because the expansion is not something recent. I wonder what we could do now.
Seeing the landfill in the west side, close to the huge eggs, was very stimulating for my creative mind. It was a great example of a space that is being used inefficiently. It was amazing to see first hand how, still in the so-called “heart of the world”, there are huge portions of wasted space. And to know that a couple of miles southwards, the price of space is one of the highest in the world. My mind is now flooded with possibilities of how that space could be used for the benefits of so many people.
As a last point, the boat trip was very nice because it is a very atypical environment of learning. And yet, it is like a dream: to learn while the wind hits your face and with the sound of the wind navigating the water is awesome!
