Gazella is an ecologically friendly seating solution for 4 reasons.
1: The parts of the chair are thought out in such a way that they nestle into each other before being cut. In this way, there is less wasted material in the production of Gazella. 3 Gazella chairs can be printed out of a single 4’ x 8’ sheet (.75’ thick) of Baltic birch plywood. Once cut, the chair needs very little post production before it can be packed and shipped.
2: Gazella ships flat. This is a very important attribute considering the globalized world we live in and that cargo boats, which are our way of distributing our products around the world, have limited capacities. Chairs are shipped in a container. The quantity of chairs that can be fit in a single container define its travel efficiency. Gazella, by being designed to assemble and disassemble easily, has a great shipping efficiency.
3: Gazella is a healthy chair. Traditionally, chair design focused purely on comfort and aesthetics. A chair that supported your body completely was thought to be a successful chair. However, we have come to discover that these considerations may become unhealthy. We spent too much time seating in these hiper-comfortable chairs and, without knowing it, our muscles got atrophied. This comes together with back problems and pain. Gazella solves this problem: its un-traditional inclined seat engages the sitter in the act of sitting. Their pelvis is opened and tilted forward and, to compensate, the upper body straightens itself causing the lumbar region to curve (this, in medical terms is called lardosis). Sitting in Gazella strengthens your core.
4: Gazella is a dynamic solution that compacts different activities into one product. Gazella is a working chair that possibilities you to be active and on top of your work or relaxed and contemplative. However, by turning around, you suddenly find yourself with a practical surface to work on. This is the third sitting position, and it accommodates laptop users and sketchers. Gazella also functions as a small flat surface for on the go tasks. The Armrest/flat surface is as the ideal height for using standing up.
