One form of waste I noticed in my suite this week is that of people leaving the sink on. Part of this is a design issue with the sink, in that it can get caught before it is fully off, thereby leaving it dripping. To some degree, I think this design issue can be over ridden by humans, seeing as my suite mates have been doing this constantly and I have not been doing this nearly as much.
Another form of waste I noticed is how my room mate likes to have the windows open and the ac on. He says he likes the circulation of it, but it seems as though a fan would suffice and be significantly less wasteful.
Another method which I used to attempt to reduce my water waste is eating more vegetables and fewer meat products. Given the inefficiency of trophic energy level transfers, it makes sense for the world to eat as much vegetables as possible. Additionally, this will signal to manufacturers that meat is no longer as highly demanded as it once was, and therefore they will produce less of it, as time goes on. To me, it seems that water waste is not really a problem we need to focus on too much. I believe that a great majority of our water waste comes from industrial and manufacturing processes we unconsciously rely on as consumers. Once we fix the disposability and convenience markets that we live in, I imagine a great deal of our water waste issues will be resolved.
