I’ve selected to modify/ combine a hoodie pattern and a robe pattern to make a hooded . To me, this is the ultimate form of protection, as it covers so much of the body, specifically the face. I will alter the pattern by combining the length of the robe with the hood. I will also be exaggerating the pointedness of the hood and adding some armholes to make the garment more functional. I will likely use some sort of digitally printed heavy weight canvas and then a black canvas of a similar weight. I will sew these things together. These choices all make the garment rather aggressive, a visual which only adds to its defensive quality. Additionally, I would like to add an interior pocket for mobile tech, thereby making it hard to access, which limits the damage it can do to us, and makes us see it more as a tool. This article interestingly discusses how the Apple Watch, despite being a piece of technology, actually seeks to reduce our relationship with technology.The article suggests that the watch acts as a device that allows the user to check how important a notification is before choosing to respond to it (rudely) with their phone or not.
