Integrative Studio 2: Presenting Self – Symbol Tag July 2018

Continuing an exploration in the self, for a short assignment we were instructed to create a symbol tag which would include symbols in relation to our personal self and life.

I chose to create a font using a photograph of a specific place in India as the base of the font. I think the photograph represents how I look at India, it being my place of origin. The lighting is perfectly in sync with the image that comes to mind when I think of all the evenings I spent out there in high school. You see a glimpse of the traffic as well as the cultural beauty in the architecture from the building behind. This signifies my culture as well as place that is close to my heart. It is present in the I category.

Using the font, I spelled out ‘brigrov’ which is a combination of my first name – Brinda and last name – Grover. A lot of people call me Bri and ever since I made all my social media back in like middle school – Brigrov, a lot of people have called me that and I think its a perfect combination of both sides of my family since I inherited my last name from my father but my mother gave me my first name and it was very special to her. This is present in the I category as well.

Lastly, I created my personal symbol, which is ‘.0’. It is a small tattoo I have on my left ring finger and represents a decimal point and a zero. It symbolizes the concept of insignificance as all numbers after a decimal point are insignificant. I spend a lot of time overthinking about small things that I shouldn’t be and I have to constantly remind myself that I’m a tiny speck on a planet in a solar system which is one next to so many in our galaxy which is one among other galaxies. My problems are so insignificant when I view them that way. This is very important to me and is the way I go about living my everyday life unbothered by what I’m going through or what might happen. I believe this is part of the We/Us category.
