Bridge 5: Studio Reflection

Integrative Studio 1 has taught me an abundance of skills. Not only have I improved as a creator, but as well in the ways I think. The variety of each project has worked on a different aspect of knowledge and design, and these will help me excel in my chosen field. I have considered memory as a whole, as well as, what makes a memory — whether that be true or fake. I explored my perception and perspective and identified what formed these subconsciously. Through analyzing various forms of media, I was able to create a photo essay that clearly illustrated my thought process and understanding. Lastly, I valued being able to rebrand, design, and create a new monument because I found it to be a very useful way of thinking and preparing for the future.

Bridge 1 was successful in getting me to think about memory as a whole. The idea of fake was explored and I was able to apply this kind of thinking to a real-life memory. Bridge 2 was useful because it required me to consider New York in a new perspective. I began by analyzing a specific form of media that used New York as a setting. I chose The Devil Wears Prada and along with Integrative Seminar 1, I studied the way it portrayed New York. I considered how my perceptions can be fake, which was portrayed through my photo essay. I had to display a clear explanation of my thought process and my understanding, after rationally analyzing the media. Bridge 3 was interesting because I was able to explore a neighborhood I had never visited before. I immersed myself in the culture created by this neighborhood and analyzed a specific area of my choice, which formed my article “A Look at the Locals.” It was useful to participate in the production of a newspaper, as it is something I had never done before. Lastly, Bridge 4 was the most relatable assignment for me because of the elements that required rebranding, creating, and accomplishing a new design. I can see myself being part of this kind of process later in life as I am in a design and management program.
