For me, I have not had to experience the disorienting time of being a stranger in a community that isn’t mine. Each time I had the opportunity I carried myself as a visitor, completely detached from the patterns and recipes of the culture. I have lived in the same town the entirety of my life up until this point. I have never been a stranger, I have been surrounded by my family from the second I was born. I have gone to school with the same people since kindergarten and never ventured far from the warm embrace of the familiar. Now I am about to take on a life unlike anything I have ever lived. For in these next few years I will take on the role of the strange and learn to become one with the mecca of culture I have chosen to be my new home.
