The performance of John Zorn’s “Khebar” is a very joyful song which gives most of the musicians freedom to put their own spin on the song. The song’s fast pace forces the players to stay on their toes during the performance. Khebar has a very ancient feel to it, the tone of the song seems almost familiar to the listener. I feel like John Zorn was playing on what we consider jazz, the song has many shifts from a striking cello and violin combination to a plucked violin solo, at times the song would seem to be heading in a direction that would be odd but ends up finding itself and solidifying each instrument perfectly into the song. In the video all of the musicians are constantly smiling at the song they are playing, it’s like they’re all complementing their skills, the conductor can’t stop grinning when he asks all the musicians to join in. This goes to show that although improvisation can be something frightening it ends up becoming something refreshing and fun for the creators and the audience.
