Experience and Meaning Activity

From hearing birds to cars, and from using cars to walking.
During Experience and Meaning, we began by reading an excerpt from ECOLOGY OF THE MIND by Kalle Lasn & Mica White. I was surprised to read how true it was that many people today “can’t work without background music. Can’t jog without earphones. Can’t sleep without an iPhone tucked under the pillow,” (Lasn & White, Noise and Silence). No matter where I am, people would be on their phones on the streets, in stores, in restaurants, or their house. So in the activity, we closed our eyes for a few minutes and not do anything. Although it didn’t seem like much, when I opened my eyes, I felt as if the tension from my body was released.
As we started to go into Washington Square Park, there were many things happening. Everybody was in their own groups, but nothing looked like it didn’t belong there. Children were running under the fountain, people were meeting up, and others were gathering around to listen to others playing music.
Nobody knew each other, but they’re still gathered in one place.
