Louise Lawler: WHY PICTURES NOW

I found this piece by Louise Lawler to be interesting because of the illusion made through simple shapes. The juxtaposition I found in this piece was the way she put together a flat wall and what looks like an abstracted tunnel; one part of this piece is made to look 2D and another 3D. I feel like the contrast between the 2D and 3D gives the piece perspective and a sense of mystery. Also, I feel like the way she placed the tunnel to cut into the piece of wall was intentional so she could leave the white space on the left.

Robert Rauschenberg: Among Friends

I liked this piece by Rauschenberg because I thought it was a little odd. I think it is interesting how he put together a goat and a tire which are two very different things. One is a natural living thing and the other is a rubber, man made object. When they are put together in this piece, I’m not sure what to get from it, honestly. I think it could possibly be that he’s just trying to be silly or it could be a more serious issue like animal cruelty. Though I find the contrast to be interesting, I wonder why he chose a goat and a tire specifically. Either way I thought this piece was very entertaining and fun to look at.
