Reflection

I wanted to do a timeline on a topic I was interested in so I chose cinema. I thought it would be interesting to focus on the theatre where the movies are shown as a constructed environment. I first started by doing some research from when moving images became a source of entertainment to the movies today and did some brainstorming. I wanted to predict how the movies might evolve in the future instead of creating a hypothetical situation. I wanted to be inclusive in all the popular ways movie theaters manifested themselves in the past which led me to have 8 phases in the evolution. I thought a timeline in the shape of a zoetrope would be a good idea since it’s directly related to the beginning of cinema. However, this was a whole new frontier for me so I knew it was going to be challenging. I made the structure first so I could have measurements for the animation. This proved harder to do than I anticipated. My first attempt didn’t work so I had to redo the structure a couple of times. Since I had 8 phases, creating a smooth animation also became a difficulty because I could only draw so many frames. I regret now not letting go of some of the phases because I feel like if I had only 6, the animation would’ve made a lot more sense. Nonetheless, I think for the amount of time and with the lack of experience I had it turned out pretty good.
