My obsession list, the bold words were my choices, and so alway what it reminds me of 🙂
- Airports: There is something about airports that I love. I can feel like I am already somewhere by hearing different languages, which makes me want to guess what country they are from.
- Blue: Just looking up into the blue sky, I have the urge to go to the airport and buy a ticket to anywhere.
- Cloud: Being up in the blue sky, and dreaming of flying anywhere is what I do whenever I’m looking at the puffy white clouds, not only to I imagine myself with flying but also the change of the of shapes of the clouds
- Dreaming: Getting lost in the clouds, also makes in a dreaming mentality. Dreaming about traveling back home to Peru or seeing myself visiting a place that would only be seen in my dreams, like a fantasy.
- Entering: These dreams make me want to enter into different emotions. From crying to laughing to sometimes not feeling anything.
- Films: Sometimes being in these types of emotions, it makes me feel like I am in one of those romantic films or even a comedy. I tend to think that everything around me is this film with me.
- (Goes to the shop and buys a pack of gummy bears)
- Honey: The sweetest loving taste ever, reminds me of my childhood always watching Winnie The pooh.
- International Cuisine: Korean, Japanese, Peruvian, Puerto Rican, Italian, Chinese.
- Jamming to music: I am the only one who jams to music around my suburban neighborhood.
- Kites: Reminds me of summer, seeing the animal-shaped kites and people enjoying themselves
- Love Stories:
- Mangas: I have read countless Managas. Even ones that influenced the path I wanted to take as a photographer
- Neon Lights: the most things that attract the city are the neon lights. That stands out the most during the night where no one is even around. To me, I feel a sense of a party that is going on.
- Ocean: I haven’t’ yet explore the 7 seas like I would love to, but hopefully one day I’ll say fuck it and jump on a sailing boat and go on the sea adventure. I want to be able to see just waves surrounding me, and maybe some whales jumping up to say hello. But with this climate where everything seems polluted, I might see a sea of plastic coming my way and maybe turtles who learned how to vape.
- Polla a la Brasa: The thing I miss the most from my home country. Although we have so many delicious dishes, something about the roasted chicken the way Peruvians cook it is much different than buying a roasted chicken here in America at your local ShopRite.
- Quest: It reminds me of the time I went camping at the jelly stone park and my cousin and I were on a quest to find some bears, even though that was dangerous. Ever since then I like to go on mini-quests anywhere.
- Running: Something I wasn’t really good but always likes to do is running. It would either be physically, which was pretty painful or mentally. Mentally running thoughts through my head about things that I would only make a big deal out of it. Or even remembering something that people have told me and having to put more thought into it.
- Sweaters: I like giant, comfy, simple, comfy sweaters. I mean who doesn’t?
- Tea: No sugar whatsoever! I like citrus tea like orange with ginger or any other fruit tea. It makes me feel warm, but I mostly love BUBBLE TEA! <3 passion fruit green tea is my addiction!
- Underwater: I always dream about swimming and living underwater. I want to be able to explore places no human being can. I think it would be extra extraordinary if I just swam into a different world of the sea.
- Vincent Van Gogh: Something about his paintings make me feel like I am listening to the sounds of the violin, and creating a melancholy symphony.
- Walking: I remember this time I have walked from 42nd street in N.Y.C all the up to 95th street where Columbia university is. It was a lot for me since I’m not really a New Yorker, I assumed that was a lot. But I slowly started liking it that I was wandering around the city, and little by little I would walk for more than 7 miles a day. Maybe it isn’t a lot to many people but for me it still is.
- X: X
- Yellow: it makes me happy. It takes me back to memories that make me happy.
- Zoo: Seeing animals that I don’t get to see like cats and dogs. I could stare at them for hours.

My 30 seconds drawing for each obsession, (This was the hardest part because I wanted to make it look clean but 30-sec sketches were really fun at the end)
QUESTIONER:
Answers from my partner on her obsession
Interview: Miao
Firecrackers
-
- A personal memory will be when I was little during Chinese New Years, We used to light up firecrackers during midnight. But now since we have pollution, we can’t do it as much anymore unless it’s the countryside.
- This is related to the other obsession I have which all involves my childhood memory, and also a Japanese ceremony where everyone is playing with firecrackers. I would hopefully like to go this summer. Firecrackers always make me feel warm because it only happens during the winter. It also makes me feel hopeful and I wish upon it.
June
-
- This is because it’s the starting month of summer vacation. Nothing is overwhelming in June. I enjoy the cold air conditioner.
- I feel like June is a cool color, like blue greenish-blue or even light blue rather than being a warm color.
Dragonfly
-
- When I was a child I used to catch the small dragonfly because the big ones would bite people. The beauty of their transparent wings was what I was attracted too. They are only seen during the summer, which is my favorite season.
Table
-
- When I was home my family had a big table and we always ate everything on that table. When my sister and I were young we used to do homework together, and my mom used to look at us so we didn’t fight with each other. Also, this table is like a memory container because of the many activities that have happened there.
