Reflection Post

I am Harris Tsui, a first year student majoring in Design and Technology. I like to utilize technology to carry out my idea and aesthetic. In the first semester, I was relying on photoshop to complete most of my work, the creativity and manipulations are very limited. As I became more familiar with the Adobe Suite, I am able to create more complex pieces in the form of video, audio, and still images. I favor colors that come in a higher saturation, and my work consists a minimalistic element. I like this seminar-studio class a lot: it gives me the chance to develop and finesse my idea in the seminar class, then later transforms the idea into an appropriate art form in the studio class. It teaches me the habit of developing an idea from the very scratch. If I were to make any new art pieces in the future, I would use the same method-jotting down my ideas and considering it from every aspect instead of rushing into the process of making. I was able to learn and get comfortable with the Adobe Premiere program in my time class. I then use it to present my findings and ideas for my studio final project, I am pretty happy with the outcome especially it’s done with a newly acquired skill. I enjoyed the process of making the artwork more than the outcome because the making part is where I learn and think the most.

Two Highlights:

Duck and Cover Project in Time

Seminar Final paper

Planning: For both projects, I plot out a timeline to better organize and utilize my time, and I think it benefited me a lot. I had a specific date for shooting, editing and going to the learning center for feedback. One thing I would do differently is that I would do more research on the subject to get more inspirations instead of rushing into the making with my initial idea.

Outcome: I am able to express my thoughts and ideas through both the video and the seminar paper. The video: Clips shot from the Coney Island, Duck and Cover clip given by Professor Radar. Seminar paper: My own research, findings, and conclusion. (Cybersecurity)

Thinking: I think both projects are made very clear in representing the idea. It is relevant to my learning since I am going into some computers courses next year, and both projects are around that topic.

In the future, I am interested in making and expressing my idea with the help of technology. (music, video, graphics)

I wanted to get comfortable with computer coding and see if an algorithm can produce art/music.
