The new affordance I designed is a small LED screen and a pair of buttons that is supposed to be put at the end of the hallway. The screen will show which floor the elevators are at and in which direction they are going, and the buttons serve the same function as the ones close to the elevators: calling elevators. In this way, people can wait for the elevator in the wide study area instead of stop waiting in the hallway, which could lead to clogging the hallway. First, people would press the button, either up or down, to call the elevator. When people see that the elevator is approaching, they can then walk into the hallway and get into the elevator.
