Jakarta is Sinking

Uttered in many news headlines, the capital city of Indonesia that is Jakarta is declared as the fastest sinking city in the world and is predicted to be majorly underwater by the year 2050. Preceding this, our metropolitan city has had to deal with many recurring natural disasters such as the flash floods that account for the city’s rising sea level. Apart from that, urbanization that is very much centralized in Jakarta is at fault for causing the city to sink at such a quick rate. Acknowledging such catastrophes, the government plans to move the capital city in Borneo in an effort to both respond to the climate crisis and to decentralize the governance. However, that does not imply that as citizens we should only rely on the government’s actions. We are also responsible for causing these natural disasters and should start doing efforts collectively to control this wicked problem. Even through small acts, little by little it will create a chain reaction and we can feel a great positive impact in the long run.
