In my drawing and imaging class, we were assigned to draw a self-portrait in charcoal. After this, we created a digital version of this portrait. This became one of my favorite pieces in the class so far because of the digital aspect. I had never worked in illustrator before, but I felt that by creating digitally, I could take more risks and experiment more with my work. Using Illustrator allowed me to break down the forms and shapes that are used to make a face. It also taught me the importance of using lights and shadows to create a more realistic view of a face. What I appreciate about the work is how versatile it was when you changed the colors. I love how easily you can change aspects of the face and colors, but also deconstruct the piece for other uses. My favorite version of it is the contrast between blue and orange, these colors create a beautiful balance and emotion in the piece.
