Reflection
In choosing a product, I wanted to capture something that was created for black people. For the time period of the project (1880s-1990s), mainstream products generally lacked diversity. Madam CJ Walker was the first black female million and was a pioneer for the black female beauty industry. I wanted to capture the pride and strength of her company brought to black women. The key element I wanted to change was the woman who was the face of the brand. I felt that her hair being straightened took away from the message of the brand. My use of line in the project was simple until I reached the hair and the text above it. I wanted to keep the lines simples so that the viewer could focus on the hair of the brand’s new face.
