Sustainable Systems: Final Synthesis Project

For this final project, we were asked to answer two questions: How could we impact a field of interest, and how can we intervene in a system? We had free rein on choosing the topic which we’d use to answer these questions. My project tackles the fast fashion industry by creating awareness of the environmental issues caused by the fashion industry. I developed a mock social media campaign called #NotAnOption to address these issues and included ideas about events highlighting critical figures in the slow fashion movement. The name (#NotAnOption) came from my belief that shopping sustainably should not have to be a choice but should be the standard. The goals of the campaign include changing the mindset of the consumer. The slides also include details about my research process, which led me to understand how much customers care about sustainable fashion. In the future, I could see the project reaching a global level and bringing in celebrities and influencers to expand the movement further.
