Wire Sculpture

Assignments: Draw a rough sketch of another person in the class, then make two continuous line drawings of that person.  Next, draw your classmate in one point, two point, and three point perspective.

For this assignment we learned about utilizing wire as a means of making line work come to life. Firstly, we studied our subject through rough sketches and continuous line drawings (shown below). The study of the subject’s face was key to understanding the most prominent characteristics that defined the person’s face.

The second phase of this project was to experiment with galvanizes steel wire (18 gauge), to capture our models. I found this to be an interesting process, as wire and plier tools were all new to me. Working with the wire required patience and planning. Through making my sculpture I learned the most about thinking through the order of making to achieve the desired outcome.
