One of my favorites, this project allowed me to use detail in a way I had never experimented with before. The purpose of this project was to link home with my current location using texture. Taking pictures of textures found around New York City, I chose to create a relief collage depicting a colonial image of Devon House in Jamaica, West Indies, the land of my heritage. By changing the color of the textures and varying the values including black and white my goal was to create minimal change as possible. Using small squares I worked to carefully place the squares directly over the template. Once completed, the image was clear and displayed an intricate combination of textures; ultimately, connecting myself to my history.
