Project #1- Phase 3- Final Presentation

For our final project of working with linear materials, we had to create a symbol sculpture that represented our individual selves. I had to do a personal research on myself, what represents me as a person, what my culture is, what I love and what I’m obsessed with. As a fashion designer, I’m very interested in the Caribbean and Latin American fashion from the 1950’s, as well as their Carnaval fashion trends. I’m also very interested in fashion accessories, especially in hats. I chose to combine these two things that I feel cohesively symbolize me as an artist and as a person. Using wire I created a hat using organic and geometric shapes. I created abstract shapes that surround the hat and in some of them, I created abstract feathers of colors that were commonly used in Latin American festive fashion.
