We tend to focus on others in our daily lives. I have seen that this is especially the case when people are in a group. In that situation we often suppress our true feelings and smile to others even if we’re feeling sad or angry. We focus on other people’s feelings, but can ignore ourselves. Sometimes there is smile on our face but indifference or pain in our heart. From being in America I have seen attitudes here are quite different, and people are far more willing to say what they feel. But in China, where the culture is far more indirect, most people do hide their feelings in the way I have said. So, this picture is my attempt to show that sometimes when we smile we are only considering the feelings of others, but keeping our inner suffering hidden.
We are playing hide and seek everyday with ourselves.
