Before watching this video I have never thought about science-fiction movie in this way. I came across another video that talks about what the Chinese society consider a “normal woman”. As a woman you need to be have a really tiny waist, in fact, the tinier the better. But you somehow managed to have long lean legs and C cup breast. You can not have a PHD degree because that will be consider too smart and the society will think you are too controlling. But you can not have a degree that’s lower than Master degree. In other words, you should at have a master degree. You can’t not have a decent income because people will think you are a heartless workaholic. But you also can’t have a low income because that means you are not a responsible adult. It doesn’t matter who you actually are, just remember to make sure the society thinks you are normal.
There are thousands female characters were written horribly in many popular movies. Media does contribute a lot to our culture. I am hoping to see more REAL female characters be written in the future. Not just the wise, good looking, innocent ones that will only fall in love with the main character.
