Week 14 Reading Response

At first of this article talked about infrastructure connection. Everything which helped us lives in this world is connected which constructed by a formula “infrastructural technology.” The author gives the idea about global urbanism by providing the example of the skyline from Shenzhen and Dubai. I was thinking when one place or one city started to do such “infrastructure space” and receive some values no matter on economic values or social values, which will be a trend or model to follow by other places or cities very soon. In the article, the author said:”While evidence of infrastructure space within the contemporary city might appear to confirm the death of architecture, perhaps it really only demonstrates that the giant is alive again.” When I traveled the cities across American, seems each city build the same kind of skyline. Like the author said the infrastructure connection between these buildings attracts more people’s eyes than the individual architecture itself. Recently, there is a revolutionary event happened in Beijing, which is government decided to remove all billboards and logos in Beijing to get a visually clean and more beautiful skyline. (https://www.caixinglobal.com/2017-12-04/beijing-bashes-billboards-in-bid-to-beautify-buildings-101180106.html) This actions triggered a lot of citizens to complain about they unable to find the original place as usual when removing these logos. In terms of thinking about what the author talked about, this kind of event has beneficial to the infrastructure connection or not? I think the answer is no. This is more about the government behavior, not actually about the real infrastructure.
