Week 11 Reading Response

As a poor English person, that week was the first time to understand a word called “Surveillance”. And had such notice that we live in a world with so many surveillance that we can’t imagine. I remember I asked my classmates why they covered their small camera on their laptop, and they asked hacks or other brilliant coders could easily access into our computer and surveillance us by using this small camera without our notice. This is a terror that our personal everyday life could kind of public to those coders. On that week’s reading also talked about the missing part of our life with the growing AI, machine learning, etc. Our activities, such as what we buy, what we saw on the internet could be used by companies who want to sell the product for us. These techniques really gave us convenient, but what we will face with them. Will we really have to lose our private life in order to get a better modern technical living place? As designers could find ways to avoid the happening of the bad part of the growing technology?

In the article, The Secrets of Surveillance Capitalism stand at a more large scope talks about how these surveillances influenced our daily life.”Capitalism has been hijacked by a lucrative surveillance project that subverts the “normal” evolutionary mechanisms associated with its historical success and corrupts the unity of supply and demand that has for centuries, however imperfectly, tethered capitalism to the genuine needs of its populations and societies, thus enabling the fruitful expansion of market democracy.”
