The purpose of this assignment was to create jewelry for another student in our class. I interviewed my classmate, Ryann, and got to know her taste in jewelry. She likes simple shapes with bright colors. She normally just wears earrings, so my original idea was for earrings. But the assignment was to make either a necklace or bracelet. So I changed my design to work for a necklace, but still made the earrings for Ryann. I choose a florescent pink plexiglass for my material. I love the clear look and how sturdy the plexiglass is. I really enjoyed learning how to use illustrator and the laser cutter. At first I was nervous that I wouldn’t understand how to use it, but now I’m confident and excited to use the laser cutter for other projects. The only issue I had was making the holes in the stars too small, so I had to recut and resize some pieces. Other then that I had a simple time with the laser cutter. I made two necklaces, one on a black chocker and one on a chain. Ryann liked the necklace with the chain and her earrings, so I’m going to keep the chocker for myself! It was really great seeing my client, Ryann, wear and like her new jewelry.
