Bridge 4 Reflection

Throughout this collaboration, I was able to find a profound sense of partnership with unexpected individuals. I assumed the role of both the brainstormer and the maker. I came up with the idea of creating a city that intertwined all of our cultures, an idea that culminated after the visit to the Museum of Art and Design. I was inspired by the clutterdness and social commentary that was found in the majority of the art pieces. Naturally, I am more of an outspoken person so there were brief moments where I argued and disagreed with members of my group over creative ideas. Our project idea stemmed from our diversity. Our piece was made to demonstrate the intersectionality of cultures through cluttered cities and consumer material. Moreover, we wanted to make our individuality shine through each of our home cities through the use of fabric, newspaper and iconography. Additionally, the group dynamic has been very pleasant. The idea was manifested during the museum visit where we bounced potential projects off of each other. The initial idea of creating a paper city was then heavily added on to by everyone equally, allowing everyone to voice their opinion.

The design of the idea was then inspired by mainstream cardboard cities, but rather than cardboard we settled for Bristol paper due to the easiness of manipulation as well as the smooth texture it offers.

While watching the video, I found the most interesting topic to be consumerism. In our piece, we reflect aspects of consumerist culture that bridges globally, hence the use of mainstream material from all our keyboards.

Altogether, I was comfortable with my role in this group project. My voice was being heard but I also simultaneously took into account my peers’ opinions and was able to find common ground which then transformed into to strong creative ideas and outlets.
