Phase 3: Creative Technique – Accessory Design

Firstly, I explored how my accessory would look like as an origami piece and found that it was quite simple and straightforward to make since it was two dimensional. I believe that I will face challenges while creating the paper prototype for the bag as I will have to make it a three dimensional form, taking into consideration all sides and facets of the product.

This is the initial sketch for my belt bag. It is simple, a rectangle with a pocket on the from resembling the shape of a diamond. Furthermore, it is sleek and close to the body. The illustration also portrays where the zipper will be as well as the buckles. I chose to illustrate the drawing in simple lines to create a technical, clean representation of the design I wanted to create. I deviated from my initial design as I wanted to create a simpler design that would be more functional than aesthetic for physicians. Included in the design, are the measurements to scale of the belt bag I will create. I put in the measurements for the length of the belt, the sides of the diamond like shape and where the zipper should be inserted. I then went on to create the patterns for my bag and use a muslin to create the crude prototype which was way easier than handling the paper.

I then went on to create a rectangular prototype but after revision decided that a shape inspired by the octahedron would be more aesthetically pleasing and evident that it was designed by borrowing a system. My belt bag was then finalized to become a diamond like shape that molded to the body in a sleek fashion.
