Ethnological Objects

For this assignment, Ethnological Objects, our class went to The MET and had to choose three objects from three separate cultures and time periods and draw them out from the museum. The next part of the assignment was to find modern day version of these objects and draw them out as well.

I chose to focus on war and ceremonial helmets from France, Japan, and China. I thought they were interesting because of how different they were from each other although they had the same purpose.

For the modern versions of these objects, I had a bit of difficulty because most war helmets have been designed to have roughly the same shape universally. I settled to gravitate towards other ceremonial headgear from Britain, Pakistan, and the United States.  British, Pakistani, and American.

I chose to create a mobile out of a hexagonal form to showcase the objects all at the same level. The color I chose for the background is navy blue because of its symbolism of royalty and prestige which war typically carries.
