City Living (Sequential Narrative)

When we were asked to create a sequential narrative, I immediately wanted to create a magazine layout. A lot of my experience in graphic design stemmed from creating high school school program booklets, being a part of my high school’s yearbook staff, and interning for a company that had me create a style guide for their brand. For this assignment, I chose to use hexagons as a thematic element to give a geometric feel to the composition. I made the dominant picture only be about half a hexagon to serve as an arrow to lead the viewer’s eye to the text. I then placed pictures I took from my Instablog to serve as visual aid for the write-up I did on how my life has been since moving to New York for college. I chose to use brush-like fonts and brush strokes to contrast the structured look of the hexagons with free-flowing elements.
