For my Mini Monument, I was inspired by the quote, “Flying is not easy without feathers,” by Plautus. I chose to make three feathers to represent the three people that have inspired and helped me physically, emotionally, and mentally. Without their “feathers,” it would not have been possible for me to have “flown” to where I am today.
My graphic design teacher from high school, Mrs. Gaber, physically helped me in gaining the graphic design skills I have now, making me learn that graphic design is a passion I wish to pursue as a career. If it was not for her and her classes, I know I would not be finding myself attending a school like Parsons. She helped me build my portfolio and acquire skills that not everyone gets to have prior college, so with that, I am very thankful to have had her as a mentor.
Besides her, another one of my high school teachers, Mrs. Fabian, has helped me throughout my high school career. Though she was my Honors English teacher during my sophomore year, she became more than that over time–she became a best friend. She was a shoulder to cry on when stress got the best of me, or when life was just not in my favor. She was always there to talk to, and never failed to give me advice that has shaped my outlook on life. Without her emotional support, I know I would not be the headstrong person I am now.
And lastly, it is without a doubt that I would not have made it to where I am today if it was not for my best friend Lauren. Ever since the first day we met, she has always made sure to help and support me in every way she can. During my application process to Parsons, I was having a lot of doubts and was second-guessing myself, thinking I knew I was not good enough to attend such an amazing school. Lauren was there to empower me, and truly showed her support for me and my plans for the future. To this day, she has never fallen short, always showing her love and support for me. She is one of the most important people in my life, and I am eternally grateful to her.
