Decconstructing My Design Process

  1. 1.The designer – Daniel Yeh.  According to the artist/designer, he created this dress as an art piece for his portfolio for him to apply to all different institutions/universities based in New York (U.S.A), and London, (United Kingdom). There wasn’t a more substantial collection towards the design since this is mainly just a dress and wasn’t part of anything related to other designers or had some sort of partnerships with other companies as well. The suit was made for the Fall season since Daniel collected all the leaves by himself around his neighborhood. Moreover, the wearable art piece that Daniel created was back when he was still a junior back in high school in the year 2017.2.The design concept/inspiration- According to the artist who created this wearable art piece (Daniel), he said that he got his inspiration from the New York City Fashion Week back in 2005 at the show many of designers showcased outfits that featuring “eco-friendly” materials. He also mentioned that the aim for his piece was to show the world how everything on Earth is a potential source for fashion; recycled materials can benefit the fashion industry.

3.Materials- According to Daniel, he said that he didn’t choose what article he wanted to use for the Eco-friendly Dress. His original idea was just walked around his neighborhood and try to find anything that he could use to make the dress that contends textures and subtle colors. He also mentioned that the reason why he wanted to use leaves is that leaves change their colors through the seasons, from green in the spring to browns and burnt oranges in the autumn. He states that by using leaves, it allows him to craft a close to the body silhouette that highlights the model’s natural curves. Moreover, he also mentioned that “leaves” shows how fashion often moves from bright colors of growth in the spring and summer to neutrals in the fall.

4.Production- The processes were used to create this design was by hand made. According to Daniel, he just hot glued the leaves onto the base of the dress (which is the black trash bag). There isn’t a specialty way/rotation of putting the leaves onto the dress, and he states that he hot glued the leaves wherever he felt like it.

5.Final product-  According to the designer (Daniel), he didn’t sketch or found a photo for his inspiration for his design. That said, there aren’t any prototypes or sketches towards the process of this Eco-Dress design.
