Orthographic Projections & Linear Models

February 5, 2024

Our first project was based on observational and technical drawings of an object of our choice. I chose a plush, stuffed kiwi as my object, and started with contour line drawings (below). The end goal of this project was to create a structure for our object with linear materials, such as wire or string.

I then measured the kiwi and made an orthographic drawing (below), including the front, right side, and top views.

Afterward, I layered tracing paper over the drawing to map out my linear structure. I chose to make a spoon, a humorous structure for my kiwi. I chose to make the structure with wire to relate the material to a real spoon.

Drawings above, structure below.

In hindsight, I should’ve used two different gauges of wire, one for the initial structure of the spoon, and a smaller one to neatly wrap around the overlapped wire. However, I’m happy with the outcome concerning the timeline and material limitations.
