Integrative Seminar: Imagined plot of a horror movie poster

The movie takes place in a village where farming is the main way of getting income. People’s livelihoods depend strongly on the weather. The story starts when a village is met with an ongoing drought. At first, the villagers are not concerned because they have went through similar times in the past, however, as the drought continues, they start to notice that it is going on much too longer than the droughts before.

The crops start to decay and the farmers now are met with despair. They start to believe that this is a punishment from God, and ask themselves what sin has brought them God’s anger. They start to look closely into the Bible and they read about Cain and Abel, and wonder if the reason behind the harsh drought is because for years, like Cain, they too, have been sacrificing crops instead of flesh.

The villagers remember how the sins of people were forgiven due to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, someone who is free from all impurities. Farming is considered men’s work in the village, due to the hard physical labor. Women would usually stay home to cook or complete various chores around the house. Because women did not take part in farming, now considered as a sinful act, they are considered innocent, like Christ.

The villagers decide to sacrifice a single woman because they believe that this would free them from God’s anger. They choose the wife of a poor farmer. However, the drought keeps on continuing.

The villagers start to wonder if they should choose the wife of an even more successful farmer. They equate success of farming to sin, and they think that the more successful a farmer is, the greater his sin. So they choose the wife of a farmer who is a little more successful than the farmer before. They kill her.

This keeps on continuing until all of the women in the villages are sacrificed. The village is doomed because they cannot continue their population.
