Drawing and Imaging: Storied Places

  1. Every city has its own history, and every place inside every city has its histories. Histories can be cultural, political, architectural, as well as natural, and are created by people who have resided in the area. Histories tell stories. The project discusses the history behind a chosen place in New York City. The first step of the project was to do on-site research by exploring around New York, searching for particular places. I had to take pictures and do sketches of the place I had chosen. I then had to do historical research by gathering information and writing about the place. Additionally, I had to search for historical photographs. I then created a digital collage on Photoshop with the researched photos. After I was finished with the collage, I printed it and added my hand-drawn portion of the project.

2. I chose the Flatiron Building. I decided on this particular building because I had recognised it in many movies I had seen. Additionally, I was very interested in its unique triangular shape, and architecture. I thought it would be meaningful to take this opportunity to draw one of the most iconic buildings of New York City.
