Bridge Project 2-Final

12 Sides Of New York

This project was focused on our experience in Washington Square Park. I was partner with Anna LaGrone who went through the same experience with me. While we were walking to the park we used earphones to block the sounds. We didn’t hear anything, only observed the colours, people, nature and felt the wind, the textures. After we arrived to the park we removed the earphones but blindfolded our eyes. So we had five senses that we could actually use. After sitting in the park blindfolded for half an-hour we noted our experiences. We compared our experiences so we could decide what to do for the art piece. Finally, we decided to make two cubes that are covered by our experiences. The sides were about the textures and the colours.

“The sounds were so close, it was like the entire park was walking right around me. I could hear everything, the footsteps, the traffic, people, animals, everything… They all sounded closer than they actually were. Even the water fall which I knew that was far from me sounded like it was right next to me. After couple minutes, I heard that a group of people sat right behind me. I heard two women and a man speaking but I had no idea what they were speaking about. I couldn’t even tell which language that was. In that moment I lost my understanding of borders, limits. Even the idea of different countries and languages lost the meaning for me.  I felt like if I could listen to them carefully, I could understand what they were saying. The term “limit” faded away. “
