Final Project – 7-in-7 Prototypes

1. Risograph and Anaglyph

Goal: The intention of this prototype was to understand the mechanics of anaglyph and test it out by printing things using a risograph printer. I wanted to use the this printer because I can print in two colors and overlapping colors create new ones.

The idea is to create illustrations using these colors to portray two different viewpoints of the relationship between humans and animals.

I could have planned it a little better to book the printers from the labs. I had a lot of fun figuring out the colors I could use. In the process I also discovered how certain other colors of the printer like the fluorescent ones glow through the red lens.

2. Game Design

As I have taken a course on game design, I thought it would be a good opportunity to incorporate the learnings into the prototype. The prototype was meant to figure out a general skeleton for a potential board game. created a concept to make children aware of what it takes to adopt an animal, all the necessary elements and processes.

As more details are drawn out, the elements can be more elaborate and detailed. The story will cover financial aspects, knowledge, space and also ideas like fostering.

This helped me consider many different perspectives around my topic and address a problem. Due to limited time, there were limitations to resources, playtesting and so on.

3. Interactive

I wanted to test out the technology and try a basic version of code which can be implemented. This was a step one for a prototype for “pet translator”. The code was created on Arduino and tested with random sound inputs to get the possible outputs.

The idea was to create and interactive installation or toys for people with pets. An example would be a dog barking at the installation to generate the outputs.

I was able to see the complexity of this idea and gauge the scope of the concept.

4. Storyboard

The idea was to compile people’s stories that express their relationships with animals and their pets. I asked friends who have had pets to express what describes their bond.

These stories can potentially be compiled into a form for people to see.

5. Pet Painters

I wanted to test out the technique with the masking tape to see if the paints seep through it. I blocked out certain areas of a canvas using the tape and put paint on it. I put the whole thing in a zip-lock and spread out the paint.

This can be given to the pets to play with so that they can reveal the message for their humans. The scope for this was also a way to collaborate with organizations or use it for marketing and create these patterns on T-shirts.

6. Projections

The goal was to see if a projector would give the desired effect and if it was the right technology to use for this. I projected an illustration of a dog to give others an illusion of having a pet. The idea is to show them what their life would look like with a pet in it and how they would feel and view themselves.

The scope of this prototype was an installation. The potential was to also project tshirt designs on people’s clothes as a way of spreading a message.

7. Watercolors

The aim was to try out painting using watercolors to get a better idea of how this medium would work on a postcard design. I wanted to make hand-painted postcards.

Future scope for the idea would be to introduce image recognition along with the postcards to convey or communicate information related to causes or NGOs.
