The project started with Mau’s values, “Allow events to change you” and “Drift”, in mind. There was no particular outcome or product in mind. It was exploratory in nature and involved wandering and exploring anything related to the one starting point which was animal adoption. Keeping an open mind to the possibilities and surprises gave great learning opportunities.
The most common question that came out during the initial feedback rounds was the need for more clarity moving forward, the direction of this project and the perspective as a creative practitioner. How to choose a direction for this moving forward? What would the output be and in what context? Which mediums can be used to express this? How can this be taken further from a Design and Technology standpoint? What was the most exciting thing about this topic?
Feedback sessions played an important role in shaping the direction of the project. They were the nudge needed to direct the topic towards a tangible output. After the 7-in-7, there was a lot of positive feedback on the concept of the game which was then taken forward.
The game was an interesting way to communicate the importance of animal adoption. Creating a board game requires a lot more calculations in terms of the mechanics required to generate a good flow. Given the timelines and number of iterations possible in them, a basic prototype was generated.
There is a lot of scope for further development of the game, including visuals, facts and figures and different information for different animals for example cats or dogs. It would be interesting to see how the game influences the players. Even though it is primarily meant for children, it would be informative to adults as well and provide more insights on the importance of animal adoption.
