Studio: Reflection

I learned a lot about my style and way of working in Studio. I didn’t have any experience working with 3D materials, and it was definitely a challenge. I think it did give me a sense of perspective about my medium though, and how much I do enjoy it. I learned what materials I enjoy working with, and which ones I have a more difficult time with. I also feel even more confident going forward in my major, because doing something completely different in order to express my ideas made me realize how much I do like and appreciate photography.

I also learned how to conceptualize with more skill, and the process that goes into that. I already had some experience with concepts in my work, but it often felt that hard to come up with one, and it was difficult to make something cohesive out of it once I did have an idea. I think the constant flow of assignments in studio taught me to conceptualize more quickly and effectively. I learned what brainstorming processes work for me, and how to begin on a project once I’ve come up with my idea in entirety. I think after this class, being asked to conceptualize is a lot less scary – and it will be easier going forward in my work.

I think the open endedness of the assignments made them difficult, but it also pushed me to have confidence in the ideas I came up with and in what I was creating. I think that is definitely something I will carry with me continuing in my career as an artist and photographer.
