This is my brainstorm and sketches for the bridge project. I tried to brain storm to fully understand the meaning of the word proxy, and along with that came up with potential ideas that I could create for the bridge project. I took me a while to create and come with ideas, because I was having a hard time visualizing a proxy for myself and however, in the end I was able to come up with a couple of ideas and sketch them out with explanations.
My idea was to create three panels, each panel represents a place that I have or am currently living in and its local language, the first panel is represented by India (Mumbai), the local language in Mumbai is Hindi. The second panel is represented by Singapore, which has many local languages however, the most common one is Mandarin Chinese. The third panel is represent by New York- which is my current place of stay, the local language in New York is English.
Each of the panels have a pen drawing which gets more colorful as it reaches the third panel. The pen drawings are of the first thing that comes to mind when I think of the places. For Mumbai, I think of the street markets and chaos of the street market. For Singapore, I think of the shop houses and for New York, I think of the New School University Center.
All the three panels will have some form of writing in them, which relate to the local languages in each of the three places. For the first panel, I was thinking of writing in Hindi, all the phrases that were commonly said or used when I was a kid. For the second panel, I was thinking of writing in Mandarin, Chinese, the national pledge of Singapore and for the third panel which will be written in English, I was thinking of writing all the things and places that I love about New York City.
I have attached an image of my write up for each panel.
Here is the final Piece of Work:
Panel 1: Mumbai Street Market
Panel 2: Singapore Shop Houses
Panel 3: The New School University Centre
Here is what they look all together:
