Drawing and Imaging-Shapes Project

We started a second assignment that was mainly based on shapes.

We initially started with arranging a shape in a random order in the middle of the classroom. Once we arranged everything, we used charcoal to start doing the still life drawings, we arranged the shapes in two ways that lesson hence we were able to capture two different compositions. When we started drawing the composition in front of us, it took me a while to get used to look at the composition more than looking at the paper. I learned that it was important for me to keep looking at the composition set up in front of me for me to create an accurate sketch. In the first two sketches that we did that class, I only focused on getting the shapes and the proportions of the shapes correct, rather than thinking about the tone and the color of each surface in the composition.

In image of the drawing above, I tried to focus on proportions of the shapes to each other but also in general, I also tried to focus on making my lines and looking the bigger picture of each shape in terms of perspective to angle the lines of each side correctly, in order to help me make the shape. Something that I helped me was that I knew the surface that these shapes were placed on was flat, hence all the vertical lines would be put in on 90 degrees, hence I knew that the verticals lines would be completely straight.

The second lesson, we continued to focus on doing still life drawings, where we focused on proportions but also tried to add in shadows, colors and tones into the composition.

This is the image that I focused on while creating the composition. Once I finished drawing it out, I changed the image to black and white to help me identify the tones found on every single object.

I used this composition as my mentor piece and sketched it out onto the newsprint book. This time I focused on proportions and getting the shadow correctly. I also made sure to focus on the perspective of all the shapes.

I recreated the same sketch onto illustrator, here is an image of the image that I made using illustrator. However I still had a little bit of a hard time figuring out the correct shadows

I had to still focus on shaping and shadows of the shapes. I need to focus on the shapes on the shadow on the circles, to be able to match the shadows and the colors more.

I improved it further to make the background a lot darker, so that the shapes are more highlighted, I also tried to fix some more of the gradients that are present in the surface of the shape.
