What is an Art Invention?
The term art intervention is something that is applied to art designed that specifically interacts with another existing art piece, situation or structure. It could also potentially be the audience of a show and or an institution.
Art Intervention only became popular in the 1960s, this is the time when artists aimed to transform the role of artists in the society at the time. Art Intervention mostly takes place in performance arts and conceptual art.
Art intervention can also refer to the type of art that is could change the conditions of a situation or something that is not art or is not considered to be art. An example of this would be, that an art intervention may potentially change the political or economic situations , it may even raise awareness about certain aspects or situation which is not known to the public. These goals mean that the intervention of art mainly addresses and engages with the public, some artists call their work “public interventions”.
Initially, art interventions by nature is known to carry a lot of implications of subversions. However in today’s time, art intervention is considered as a proper form of art and is often known to be carried out with support of people who have some amount of authority over the art work and the audience, or venue/location is the thing that is getting intervened.
However, there are interventions that are not endorsed by anyone which are lead to debates that focus on whether to consider the thing art or vandalism.
When I looked for art interventions online to find examples, I realised that so many interventions are so modernized.
Here are a few examples:
These pieces looked very interesting to me, and I really liked the simplicity and the minimalism of each piece.
