Integrative Studio 2 : Visual Culture

I was extremely fascinated by the Mori Building Digital Art Museum. After reading more about it, I learnt that it was one of the first digital museum in the world devoted to digital art. I really liked the concept of not having any captions or any explanations about the piece and solely letting the viewers interacting with the art. Since there are no borders it makes it seem as if all the different art in the museum is united together to make one big art work. Viewing the museum through the online website reminded me of a museum in Singapore called the Art Science Museum which has a section of the museum which also has many digital aspect to the museum. It would really interesting to have digital piece on a massive scale which is projected on the walls. The projections all over the wall are fascinating and evokes the viewer. I was very fascinated by the fact that whole the piece was powered by 520 computers and 470 projectors, which connects 50 artworks together. It is interesting to see how the artists collaborated with each other to create something that does not have boundaries.

Another piece that I found really interesting was the magazine covers by D.W. Pine, which commented on the school shootings, violence against the journalists and the White House chaos. It is interesting how the Time’s director has to think about covers that are relevant to the period of time. It is interesting to think about how to make news story into a cover making it relevant for todays time, and making it easier for everyone viewing it to understand and relate to. There are many qualities to think about such a the font and the whole composition of the cover itself.

Another piece that was interesting to me was the Artemisia Gentileschi piece. It was interesting to learn that Artemisia’s reputation was first developed as a sexual assault victim, and then was known for being one of the most interesting painters of the early 17th century. After exploring more of her works, I found that a lot of her works are able to act as reminders of the power women. It is interesting because so many of the same issues remained relevant throughout the years.
