Dissection Assignment

One of my projects that I made for my Drawing and Imaging class was called ‘The Dinner Party’, where the guidelines for the project was to create a dinner party for any artist of your choice. I decided to choose an artist that I really liked and had discovered their work in High School. The artist I chose is Christine Kim. She is a Canadian artist that works with different mediums such as water color, sketching and paper cutting. To create the dinner party- such as the utensils, a bowl, a table mat and a glass for her. I had to really understand her style and understand her process. I was able to understand most of that through visual learning where I was able to look at her work and understand the mediums that she used. However I had also emailed her a couple of questions which related to her process, the color scheme that she uses in her work, the mood, artists had influence and inspire and some background information. Fortunately, I was greeted with a reply within a couple of days which detailed answers. I believe that this is a more personal or primary form of research.

While waiting for her responses, I also read a couple of interviews that she had done where she also talked about herself, her process, and her work ethics. In the future, I would email her again, asking her questions such as what lead her to use the mediums that she uses and if she were to improvise or have an alternative what would it be? I believe that in this case primary research would make the most sense since I would be focusing on the artist itself.
