Assignment:

Redesigning Pocky Package:

Design Questions:

What are the main issues in the construction and production of the package?:

  • Manufacturing process – 2 part process (cardboard box and and plastic wrapper construction) hence longer process
  • Cardboard box graphics are confused with too many elements hence confuses the viewer. The product name does not stand out because of the overbearing background picture of the pocky sticks.
  • Package not resealable so makes it inconvenient for the user
  • Sustainability issue – Package not entire compostable or recyclable
  • Plastic wrapper doesn’t open easily like expected to

Anything unusual or innovative?

  • Package is very basic and not innovative.
  • It can easily overlooked by a consumer.
  • The package doesn’t sell, only the inside product does.

What does the designer (you) need to communicate very clearly to the production team?

  • The dimensions of the product
  • The material to be used
  • Need to ensure that production minimises material wastage as much as possible and is time and cost efficient

If you were to create something like it, what might be improved or different?

  • Is there a way to make the package resealable and reusable?
  • Improve the graphics of the package to attract users
  • Make the package sustainable – minimise the use of plastic
  • Make the package more innovative and cohesive with the product
