Seminar 2: Walk Again

This time I visited Coney Island with a friend. The experience of walking along the coast alone, as opposed to with someone is vastly different. This friend is a Brooklyn local, so walking around with her gave me a whole new perspective on the neighbourhood. She told me about her childhood days and how every time she fought with her family, or needed space, or just to clear her head, she’d come to the boardwalk and just walk along the beach. This helped realise how this neighbourhood is so precious to many people and how it plays a unique and sacred role in everyone’s lives. A neighbourhood is so much more than just an area of land where people live. It the very same people that give the neighbourhood its character.
