I chose to use collage for the T-shirt, and I used the brush in Procreate for the rest of the painting. David said that when he graduated last year, he attended his first music show with his friends and bought a T-shirt, which made him feel like he was taking a step towards adulthood and becoming more independent. So I painted some light blue shapes on the bottom part of the t-shirt to represent raindrops. This t-shirt does not protect him from the wind and rain, but rather this t-shirt will bring him the storm. This means that he is an adult and is learning to face his own frustrations and difficulties, to solve his own problems, and to take responsibility for himself. I asked David to send me two of his favorite pieces of artwork and filled in the hair and arms of the people in the painting with the colors from these two pieces. This signifies his love of artwork, his perception of beauty, and his own unique insights that can sustain him through those painful days that he must go through after becoming a minor. The red dots represent warm things, and I wanted to express the wish that David would always encounter more warmth than frustration in the future.
And I’m sorry that I’m in quarantine right now because I moved to another city a few days ago, so I can’t go to the post office to mail this postcard now. I’ll send it to David and update the postage and the follow-up as soon as I’m out of quarantine.
