Bridge 5

When I was thinking about which project I should improve or do again, Bridge 1 first jumped into my mind—- it is the first project I did in Parsons, and my thoughts were a little immature at that time. Hence I decided to redo it.

The requirements of Bridge 1 are “using daily-life things”, so when I looked around, I found that the plaster model that I used for Bridge 3 was still in my room. Also, there were still stains left. Thus, I decided to cut off part of the plaster model’s head, and then use epoxy to fill his head. The epoxy should look like the ocean after I put some blue and green stains in it. Last, I will put a micro person (a diver) in the “ocean”.

The theme is that people’s minds are like oceans. There are countless thoughts in everyone’s mind. Nobody can easily swim out of other people’s thoughts. The inspiration came from an essay I wrote in high school—-it was an informal essay, and I wrote “Every moment, there are thousands of thoughts floating through my mind, but outsiders can’t catch any of them unless I talk to them, and even me myself ignore some of them.”

There were lots of problems when doing this project—-I accidentally broke the plaster model when trying to cut off part of its head, and the coagulation of the epoxy was so fast that it was too late for me to put the micro person into it. That’s why my Learning Portfolio post is two days late. However, after making two failed products, I finally succeeded.

This is the last project of my Integrative Studio 1 class. I will miss the time that I tried to turn my inspiration into reality for the first time.
