The Learning Portfolio is a tool with which you will continue to engage throughout your education at Parsons (and perhaps beyond). The focus of the Learning Portfolio is on reflection, on looking across your many courses and semesters and the various assignments and projects throughout the curriculum. The portfolio is a way for you to examine your own progress and performance, to share your work with others, and to tell a story about your time on campus (New York, Paris, and elsewhere).
3D Lab class
Project 1: Sculpey character
For this project, I needed to use Sculpey to make a 3D character. My character is a vegetable monster who has experienced a very high level of radiation and transformed into a monster.
Project 2: Plaster
For this project, I used Sculpey to make a low relief object, then I needed to use oomoo to make a mode. Finally, I used plaster to make 6 faces.
Project 3: performance project
For this project, I decided to make a funny character. Then I created a human form gorilla, Kim Korillia. She is one of Kardashians’s family members, and she is famous as well. She was on the covers of Time and Life, and she has been nominated for one of the most influential people in the world. is she not only gorgeous, but she’s also dangerous. Be careful guys!
Project 4: Junk Food
For my final project, I decided to make wall decorations. I used oomoo and plaster for the faces, and I also used photoshop to make the food pattern background.
Rice Cooker (Intro To Design Studies)
A rice cooker is an electronic kitchen appliance that can boil and steam rice. There are many different brands, but the one I have at home is from Aroma Housewares. Aroma Housewares Rice Cooker looks really modern, the colors are only black and silver, and it looks like a small cylinder. The size is about 10.8 x 11.8 x 10.8 inches, and the weight is about 8.3 pounds. There is a handle on the top, which you can easily to open it by using the handle. Also, there are six buttons on the front, the start button is gray, and the others are black with silver edges. Each button has a different function, such as white rice, brown rice, steam and keep-warm. Furthermore, when you open the rice cooker, there is a separate inner bowl that you can take out.
Before the invention of electronic rice cooker, rice was always cooked on a large stove built in kitchen in Asia. It required many conditions for people to cook rice, such as large kitchen space, chimneys, and fire. After the birth of electric cookers,. many people have less housework to do, and the lives of people who live in Asia have changed tremendously. For me, I cannot live without rice cooker, and you can find a rice cooker in every Asian family’s kitchen. From my research, I want to learn the history of the development of rice cooker and the culture behind it. Also, I want to learn how rice cooker has changed people’s cooking routines, and how it inspires more inventions to make cooking less difficult.

Behind the Screen (4D Studio)
The exhibition “Behind The screen” is a great show to educate people about the process of making a film, and what happens and what people do when they are making films. Also, it is a celebration of the development of film industry.
When people go to a cinema to see a movie, a film that will be played is always a finished product, but people don’t really think about that before the production is finished, there are many people are involved.
For example, in this exhibition, they displayed some iconic film illustrations and sketches. One of them really attracted my attention – the “sketch of most iconic and disgusting scene in The Silence of the Lambs, which gave me a nightmare when I was a child. Before people start working on filming scenes, production designer should create some storyboards, design some images, and visualize scenes to describe the angles of the cameras and the stories. They even need to have some architecture design or other backgrounds to give them capacities to design stages and spaces in those films.
Furthermore, music is important as well. Musicians need to write background music to heighten those film’s atmospheres.
The theme music of Twin Peaks is a good example. The melody express the feeling of a peaceful little town, and the usages of drumbeats make people feel a little bit nervous. It seems like there is a story in this music. As the music goes on, more and more feeling swarm into your heart. For me, I think music also is a way to tell a story, and when pictures and music work together, it become a wonderful combination.
There are many things you can find in this exhibition, such as the history of makeup in film industry, costume design, and sound effects. Making a film is hard, but the difficulty won’t stop artists and scientists to work together.
The White World In The Box(Sustainable System)
Paper is a necessity in our modern life. When we look our surrounding, we can find many items that are made of papers, such as books, newspapers, and packages. How many papers have we used everyday? This question is always in my head. The natural sources aren’t unlimited, and one day, we may cut down the last tree on the earth. This is why people have to start reducing the usage of papers, and recycle waste papers every time.
For this final project, I decided to make a beautiful light box by using amazon boxes.
The process
In my process, I decided to used amazon’s delivery box to express the idea of mass production and the buying culture (as Andy Warhol”s article Underwear Power). Furthermore, I cut some boxes into different shapes like trees, mountains, grass, and mushrooms, and painted them to white. Also, I installed the LED blue lights on the background, and I glued every pieces in the box. On the outside, it looks just a regular delivery box, but when you open it, it will become a beautiful paper cut and light box.
The final look
My purpose of making an amazon box into a paper cut art installation is to remind people to think about the natural environment when they waste or use papers. For me, I think the color of white is neutral, and it doesn’t stand for any meaning unless you give the meaning to it. Many companies advertise themselves as green companies, and in many ads, they brainwash people to believe how environmental friendly they are. But actually, when you do some research online and dig more
deep, there are usually many ugly facts. For my project, I want the color of white to stand for the meaning of whitewash. The white “natural environment” that
I built is a representation of our reality life. When we only just look at the surface, everything is perfect. However, when you open you eyes, and turn on the
lights to search for the truth, you may find out the prefect environment that are built by those big companies are not what you imagined. Furthermore,
the lifestyle has changed a lot in the modern life. People aren’t
interesting to make things by themselves anymore, because they can get anything you want by only one click. When people see the amazon box,
it will remind people to think about their behaviors. How many stuff we can buy online, and how many stuff do we really to buy?
When you purchase an item on amazon, it means you also purchase the amazon’ paper box, and one more tree will be cut down by the only one click.
I hope people can notice how beautiful is our world after seeing this project. And remember, everyone has responsibility to save the world.
The Final Project of Time Class (A comic book)
For the final project, I decided to make a comic book, which is a story about revenges.
In this comic book, I’m going to use 70’s American comic style in the first half of the book, then I will transfer it to Japanese comic style for the other part. Furthermore, for the concept of time about the future, I will use the narrative of the comic to represent it.
